2.2 Product design for reuse or extended durability of product
The Quality&Metrology Group of DIGEP - Department of Management and Production Engineering (https://www.digep.polito.it/en/) is offering expertise in statistical process control, technological surfaces mechanical and topographical characterisation and industrial metrology to participate as a project partner to a ERA-MIN3 proposal.
The group has metrological laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment to characterise technological surfaces from both topographical and mechanical perspective. The former by means of innovative solution (fringe projection systems, coherence scanning interferometry) enabling the characterisation also of free-form and both rough and polished surfaces, also traditional systems are available (CMM). Mechanical characterisation is achieved by nanoindentation testing platform and micro-scratch enabling non-destructive characterisation at grain-level; the characterisation capabilities include polymers.
The group has expertise in developing characterisation methods based on the former measurements and exploit them to control and optimise manufacturing process. The Statistical Process Control and Industrial Metrology know-how offered by the group allow robust and reliable manufacturing process characterisation. The group offers process optimisation towards zero-defect manufacturing capabilities, thanks to extended knowledge in statistically analysing data (also by Machine Learning approaches) and evaluation measurement uncertainty of the characterisation procedures, both for mass and low-volume productions. The specific know-how from quality engineering allows assessing the complexity of both manufacturing and disassembling processes.

The Quality&Metrology Group DIGEP - Department of Management and Production Engineering (https://www.digep.polito.it/en/) has decades of expertise in statistical process control, statistical data analysis, evaluation of measurement uncertainty in industrial fields and mechanical characterisation. It can also exploit tight collaborations with Italian NMI (INRiM).
