2. Circular Design
As an NGO concerned about sustainability, one of our objectives is to reduce eWaste, support renewable energy sources integration by lowering the storage system costs and help to conserve rare earth materials by utilizing the batteries in more usage cycles. Our solution is to give a second life to used EV batteries converting them into custom residential energy storage systems. Where some see waste we see nothing but an opportunity.
Moreover, as “New Urban Agenda” local partners, we aim to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in all our projects:
-Affordable and clean energy
-Responsible consumption and production
-Industry, innovation and infrastructure
In the following years, the first generation of EV batteries will come out of use and along with it a huge risk for them to become waste. The time suits our future plans as we are participating in the Solar Decathlon Competition, where we aim to reconfigure a used EV battery as a storage system for our prototype. After the competition, we will test and monitor the behaviour of the system in comparison with other storage systems (lead-acid and lithium batteries) implemented in our previous solar homes.
-A technical guide to support the implementation of the solution;
-A comparative Technico-economical analysis between the different energy storage system and their feasibility over time;
-Developing of a platform and procedure to recycle the used second-life batteries;
We are an NGO with over 9 years of experience and 12 successfully implemented projects. 50+ students and graduates, passionate about sustainability and change, working interdisciplinarily in 10 different departments.
We develop projects and communities that want to transform Romania and cities into the places they want to live in. We focus on sustainability and climate change, youth and the environment.
