1. Supply of raw materials from exploration and mining
South Africa is a listed partner in the ERA-MIN3 call.
DSI-NRF CIMERA is seeking potential partners to develop project/s linked to economic geology.
Potential project ideas include: 1) Vanadium as a supply for battery raw materials; 2) Rare earth element mineralization; 3) Large igneous complexes petrogenesis and metallogeny; 4) Multi-metal mineralization in the Bushveld complex; 5) Copper deposits in southern Africa; 6) Diamonds in Africa; 7) Gold and U mineralization in the greater Witwatersrand-Pongola Basin; 8) Manganese ore deposits, Northern cape; 9) coal and ash as potential alternative sources for CRM / REYSc extraction; 10) mine waste characterization and reclamation.
Please send enquiry regarding other potential project ideas. We are available to explore collaboration opportunities.
DSI-NRF CIMERA is a Centre of Excellence (CoE), hosted by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and co-hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). CoEs are national assets, existing to serve the national interest and provide future value though endeavors of postgraduate training (human capital development) and production of fundamental and applied research in economic geology (www.cimera.co.za). We conduct cutting edge integrated geological, geochemical, geometallurgical and geophysical research on mineral and energy resources in, not only South Africa, but Africa as a whole. A key research focus area is critical raw materials, with other focus areas concentrating on iron ore, manganese ore, diamonds, gold, PGM's, and coal. DSI-NRF CIMERA collaborates with 12 geology departments in South Africa.
