INSEMEX is interested to join forces with other Project Partners for submitting a project proposal within the ERA-MIN 3 Call, disposing of proven expertise and unique facilities for testing of explosive materials, flammable/toxic substances, explosion-proof equipment and training of intervention staff for toxic/flammable atmospheres.
INSEMEX was founded in 1949 as testing station for mining safety, in order to carry out research on the safety to explosion for the mining industry, later on for the oil and gas extractive industry and for the petrochemical industry, and since 2006, INSEMEX has been re-organized and has been operating as National Institute for Research and Development in Mine Safety and Protection to Explosion – INSEMEX Petrosani.
INSEMEX is a one of a kind R&D institute in Romania and one of the few in Europe whose main activities focus on the improvement of the OHS level in hazardous toxic/explosive/flammable industries.
INSEMEX performs basic and applied research, technological development and provides technical solutions in the regulated fields for public interest, regarding the increase of the OHS level for activities carried out in industries endangered by explosive and toxic atmospheres, underground and surface.
INSEMEX Petrosani performs research in the following directions: explosion protection, explosives and blasting techniques, safety of equipment and facilities, safety of mineral resources, environmental protection, mining and industrial ventilation, classification of underground works in terms of gas releases, rescue operations in toxic / explosive / flammable atmospheres. Also, the institute conducts research aimed at establishing the causes leading to events generated by explosions of combustible substances and by explosive materials, both for the industry, as well as for the civilian area.
At international level, INSEMEX is a member in several specialized organizations in the field: International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres (IECEx), International Mines Rescue Body (IMRB) – Founding Member, European Federation of Explosives Engineers (EFEE), European Heads of State Mining Authorities and Forum of Coal Mining Safety Regulators – Founding Member.
INSEMEX, through the Product Conformity Assessment Body, Brussels Notified Body NB 1809, provides certification services in order to apply the CE mark, in compliance with four European Directives: Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX), Directive 2014/28/EU (Explosives for civil uses), Directive 2014/34/EU (Pyrotechnic articles), and Directive 89/686/EEC (Personal protective equipment), for the first three being a unique NB in Romania. Also, INSEMEX has been assigned as Ex Certification Body (ExCB) and Ex Testing Laboratory (ExTL) in the international system IECEx, for assessing the conformity of technical equipment with international standards concerning explosive atmospheres.
INSEMEX Group of Testing Laboratories comprises technical testing teams from all the research laboratories of INSEMEX and is accredited by the National Accreditation Body – Romanian Association for Accreditation – RENAR in compliance with EN ISO/IEC 17025 and SR CEN/TS 15675:2009.
